The Meaning of Life and Its Importance to All of Us
The meaning of life is a difficult concept for many people to grasp. For some people it means caring and helping others. Others believe that it’s all about being an ‘eternally’ happy person. Yet, another school of thought holds that the meaning of life is finding your own happiness and true value. Nevertheless, there are many people who believe that the meaning of life is finding the joy of life – regardless of which school of thought one belongs to, the bottom line is that you must find happiness and find it with the help of others.
The most common philosophical concept supporting the meaning of life is the philosophy of naturalism. According to this belief, everything is made up of atoms and molecules and those atoms and molecules are composed of matter (including humans), energy, space, time, and consciousness. The belief is that everything began in a vacuum created by a powerful explosion called the Big Bang Theory.
The second most common philosophical theory regarding the meaning of life is that it exists inherently and that it is necessary for us to find meaning and purpose in our lives. According to this philosophy, we will find meaning and purpose if we work hard enough, to the extent that we transcend from the duality of the present moment to the eternity of the future. According to this belief, humans have lived beyond their means and so must make amends in order to continue on a journey of personal growth and spiritual development. No matter which school of thought you fall under, whether you believe the meaning of life is in helping others and finding happiness, it is important to remember that the pursuit of happiness and the pursuit of purpose will lead to personal and spiritual enrichment.
