How to Be Less Human

One of the most important life lessons of all, especially for those of us who are growing older, is “How to be Less Human.” This is a hard lesson to learn especially in this technological age where there are so many different people doing so many different things. We live in an amazing time where there are more machines and more people than ever before. In order to survive, you have to find ways to be less of each. It does not mean that you have to be a different person, but it does mean that you have to recognize what is human and what is a machine.

How to be Less Human

Humans are social animals. This has been innate in all of our evolutionary pasts. Our species have always worked better when there were other people around. Even today, in places like Africa and Asia, people are able to coexist when they have to work together as a group because the social bonds are strong. People need to be reassured that they are not being judged or that they belong. Being part of a group that shares certain values or beliefs helps keep humans healthy, happy and on track.

Machines, however, do not have these needed human qualities. They are designed for speed and for a singular purpose. They may be able to function without emotions but they are not without mental obstacles. Being human is not an option in today’s society but being a machine may be your only option.
