How to Be More Human
How to be more Human is a popular theme in recent days as humankind struggles to grasp what being Human truly means. Many of us have been around long enough to see how this struggle has played out in countless ways over the course of history, but how does it impact us today? How can we accept the imperfections of mankind and still continue to strive for a world in which every person is given the chance to create and take part in a civilization that respects all individuals and all journeys? How can we find a balance between the desire for perfection and compassion for fellow human beings?
The answer is simple: by learning to be more human. When we accept the imperfections and shortcomings of others, we are given the opportunity to grow and learn from our mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes in the hopes of changing them for the better, and the only way we can do this is by stepping away from them, reading the situations through a new light, and coming to a place of appreciation for all that others have overcome and continue to overcome. By learning how to be more human, we are also given the opportunity to celebrate the uniqueness of each individual, even when those individual’s path towards happiness and fulfillment seem impossible. We have to continually remind ourselves that each of us is an individual, with individual desires, skills, and talents that can be shaped and used to the best of our ability.
How to be more Human does not mean compromising who you are and becoming someone other than yourself. It does not mean hiding who you really are behind a mask or pretending to be something that you are not. It does not mean becoming a hermit and living a solitary life. Instead, it means learning to appreciate the good parts of each individual while still finding ways to let go of the bad. While this may seem like hard work at first, it will teach you how to live a more balanced and fulfilled life, and perhaps, just maybe, make some enemies along the way!
